Applying CBD straight onto your pores is certainly popular amongst consumers, who are frequently choosing this option over taking pills or using CBD vape oil pen.

You may wonder why a huge proportion of people are turning to lotions and oils over the vast number of other methods. However, it appears that choosing topical applications can be extremely beneficial when it comes to curing those aches and pains. As topical CBD does not need to be digested, it works faster and can offer almost immediate relief for chronic pain, skin conditions and a variety of other localized issues.

SCIENCE INVESTIGATES HOW TOPICAL CBD CAN HELP TO TREAT ARTHRITIS

While there is a large number of studies showing how CBD has benefited people, the majority of research on the application of topical CBD has used animals. Several of them shows amazing CBD oil benefits for pets.

A 2016 study undertaken by a grouper of scientists at the University of Kentucky showed that they had successfully induced artificial arthritic pain in the knee joints of rats. The results showed that CBD was, in fact, effective in reducing their pain and improving their mobility.

“Transdermal CBD gel significantly reduced joint swelling,” the researchers wrote, also stating that the way they positioned their affected joints improved after the application of CBD.

“Exploratory behavior was not altered by CBD indicating a limited effect on higher brain function,” they added, giving further evidence that there are no side effects to CBD.

“These data indicate that topical CBD application has therapeutic potential for relief of arthritis pain-related behaviors and inflammation without evident side-effects,” the scientists concluded.

MORE RESEARCH IS REQUIRED BUT CURRENTLY ‘IT’S REASONABLE TO THINK CBD MIGHT HAVE BENEFITS’

In April 2016 an investigation carried out by Medical Marijuana Inc.on CBDsummarized a variety of important research.

“The topical application of cannabinoids allows them to be absorbed directly into the affected area for faster and more focused relief.”

The paper stated that even topical formulations based on psychoactive cannabis are not mind-altering, because they “bind to CB2 receptors near the skin, activating the endocannabinoid system, and are never absorbed into the bloodstream.”

Apart from chronic pain, “the topical use of a combination of THC and CBD has been reported as effective against the ‘central pain of multiple sclerosis.’” It also has the potential to cure skin conditions including “burns, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, and skin infections.”

However, Medical Marijuana, Inc. did own up to the fact that “little research has been done into the application of … cannabinoids transdermally.”

A report in the January 2017 edition of Shape magazine saw fitness blogger Rachael Schultz, being more cautious when it comes to analyzing topical CBD, saying “There’s practically no scientific data to support the idea that a CBD-infused topical cream is any more effective than other topical pain relievers, like Tiger Balm, BenGay, or Icy Hot,”.

Many experts that she spoke to stated that while CBD is rather promising, it is yet to be widely proven by carrying out human-based laboratory tests. She also went on to debate whether other natural ingredients of CBD could, in fact, be more beneficial than CBD itself.

MANY CONSUMERS STATE THAT ‘CBD HAS BEEN THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED’

Many users of CBD have been incredibly vocal about how it has benefitted them. For example, Dr. RangaKrishna who is a doctor from New Yorkhas put his trust in topical CBD by holding a patent in it.

He stated, “Topicals are a fantastic option as they’re easily measured in terms of ingredient compositions, and are higher in bioavailability than orally ingested compounds; this being because they are able to skip liver metabolization,”.

He discussed how many studies still need to be carried out before anything can be certain. However, he truly believes that CBD will become more and more trusted as he hopes to eventually combine it with other topical pain relievers. You’ll be hard-pressed looking for natural options that can best CBD oil for anxiety and pain.

That being said, not everyone has something positive to say about topical CBD.

“I tried for a stubborn chronic pain problem,” wrote one Reddit user. “It helped a little, but really not enough for that spot and my pain level.”

While this user did explain that they fell back into ingesting CBD through a variety of other means they did find a surprising benefit to topical CBD.  “I was completely skeptical, but it works like a miracle on [menstrual] cramps. Who knew? Amazing.”

However, other Reddit users continued to praise CBD stating, “CBD has been the only thing that has helped,”.

WHILE CBD STILL REQUIRES MORE RESEARCH, THERE IS NO HARM IN TRYING IT OUT YOURSELF

Medical research papers are still debating whether CBD can benefit persisting health problems such as epilepsy, even with the many years of positive research surrounding it. Therefore, it is still imperative that science continues to fund more research on CBD. Studies on CBD oil for epilepsy and migraines proved to have a great contribution to the improvement of human and animal lives.

That being said, many users have been vocal on the positive effects of CBD over the years showing that there is absolutely no harm in giving it a go yourself.

“Science hasn’t confirmed creams with CBD will have any greater benefit than those without, but there’s little to no risk in trying it out.”, concluded a skeptical CBD Oil Adviser.
